If you are setting up a hydraulic steering conversion in your off road performance vehicle, we are happy to help you with a steering valve recommendation for your application, but please read the following before calling for help so you will know what information we will need to be able to assist you.

  1. Choose your cylinder first, keeping in mind double rod and twin cylinder setups will allow you to use a steering valve with load reaction which will provide more balanced steering as well as letting the steering geometry forces have some effect at the steering wheel, in turn allowing the “return to center” automotive feel. With single rod cylinders a non-load reaction steering valve is recommended.
  2. Record the bore, rod o.d., and stroke of the cylinder you wish to use. Keep in mind you may not use all of the stroke available in the cylinder for your setup. For calculating purposes we need to know just how much stroke you will actually use when installed.
  3. Decide on how many total steering wheel turns you want from lock-to-lock. Typically this ranges from 2.5 to 5.0 turns.
